John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach is a form of bodywork that takes into account the importance of the fascial system on the entire physiological body. Often this fascial system is omitted or completely overlooked and severely restricts an individuals ability to heal.
Trauma and inflammatory responses create myofascial restrictions (not unlike a straightjacket) that can produce crushing tensile pressures on pain sensitive structures like muscles, nerves, blood vessels, joints and bones. This can lead to symptoms of pain, headaches, decreased range of motion and joint compression. The John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach is designed to examine and treat the entire myofascial complex. This approach aims to eliminate the pressure caused by the restricted myofascial system and reduce painful symptoms.
The work consists of the gentle application of sustained pressure into the fascial restrictions. This essential "time element" is the key factor in making myofascial release a lasting, transformative, healing therapy. With time and sustained pressure, applied slowly, the fascia has the ability to elongate and release. Thus freeing structures, long held in unhealthy patterns.
Myofascial release needs to be done on bare skin, without the use of oils or lotions. Clients are often comfortable in shorts, sports bras and/or bathing suits.
